EThekwini municipal authorities say they are hopeful that the city’s bus maintenance backlog will be cleared before schools reopen for their third term.

The DA recently conducted an oversight inspection at the Ntuzuma Bus Depot where its found around 100 mechanically broken down buses that have apparently been out of operation for over a month.

The opposition party says having fewer buses in operation has affected commuters in KwaMashu, Umhlanga, La Lucia and Newlands East north of Durban.

Municipality’s Mandla Nsele says there’s been a maintenance backlog as well as logistical challenges in acquiring mechanical part.
