The Democratic Alliance says the failure by the ANC President, Cyril Ramaphosa, to recall Jacob Zuma, only proves that the ANC is incapable of change.
In a statement, party national spokesperson Phumzile Van Damme says ‘South Africans deserve a capable President who will act in their best interest at all times, not someone who abuses their power and steals from the people.’
“If Ramaphosa was truly serious about rooting out corruption, Zuma would no longer be the President of South Africa.” says Van Damme.
“Zuma and his cabal of corrupt cronies have wreaked havoc on our country. He has made reckless decisions, destroyed key public institutions, weakened our democracy and ruined our economy, all under the noses of the ANC leadership.”
“Yet, despite all of Zuma’s indiscretions, Ramaphosa has failed to recall him showing that the ANC will not self-correct and that we can only expect more of the same.” added Van Damme.
There were speculations that president Zuma would recalled after the ANC elected its new leadership in December.
Party’s chairperson Gwede Mantashe preempted the move while speaking at a wreath laying ceremony
for the longest serving ANC President, OR Tambo in Gauteng. He told party supporter that “Zuma was going nowhere” but also said there was no “no go area” within the ANC.
He criticized Zuma supporters who have repeatedly said the president was going nowhere.
“When there is a leadership of the ANC there is basic requirement that leadership must analyse the movement broadly. Weakness of the last two or three years has been the personification of politics. We can’t talk personal politics‚ we must talk ANC.”
